Senior German shepherd receives the gift of a new home with good memories. People get along well with a senior dog. The pet has a longer life expectancy and is usually the dog’s responsibility. People see the dog as part of their family. It is the canine’s time to shine and it has a chance of becoming the family pet.

Senior German shepherd becomes family dogs from time immemorial. Older dogs can also become family pets. However, while the owner needs to make it a senior dog, there are ways and means for getting a dog accepted as a family pet.

1. A German shepherd can be a good family pet. It has the personality that people enjoy having it around. You might see a young lady playing with it or passing by a grocery store with it and feel moved to take the pet home with you. In fact, the owner herself might want to have it as part of her family.

2. There are a lot of reasons why the dog has gained a reputation as a good family pet. One reason is that it is a loyal dog and cannot be bought off the shelf. As a senior dog, it has already learned many commands. There is something about the demeanor of a dog that makes it feel like it is the boss of everyone in the house. You see it walking with a little limp but the German shepherd never looks weak. Instead, it walks with pride.

3. The dog has been socialized with children in the home. They can be very affectionate but with children, it can be a bossy dog. The dog and the family should get along well. If the dog is not comfortable with people around, it is because the owner has not properly introduced it to people. The only way for the dog to get used to people is to introduce it to people gradually.

4. Since the German shepherd is considered a guard dog, then it should guard a senior citizen. To make it a good family pet, it has to be of good behavior. It should be a good member of the family. Don’t punish it. Even if the dog is a handful, it has to learn to respect the senior citizen. That is the only way to make the dog a good family pet.

Here is the reason why the German shepherd has gained the reputation of being a good family pet: To make a good family pet, it has to be well behaved. It should guard the senior citizen, be obedient, be affectionate and be able to get along with children. Don’t force it to be a good family pet. Some dogs have gone berserk. It is because the owner tries to make it a good family pet and then turns it into a dog which is an outcast. Don’t make your dog be an outcast. It has to be a good citizen of your house.
