It is challenging to stop aggressive dog behavior when it has become a habit. It’s like trying to stop a drinking problem when your dog gets drunk on the couch every day.
When we first notice the aggressive behavior we often try to suppress it with harsh discipline. The expression, “let them eat dogs” is quite accurate.
If we give the dog a warning that they will be “eaten” it usually stops within a few minutes. However, if we continue to give the dog a chance after being warned, the dog continues to exhibit the behavior.
It’s then time to consider the use of Bark Collars. They work by giving a warning that the dog is being aggressive by barking at them. The dog then becomes frustrated and stops barking.
When the dog stops barking, the collar sounds a warning to the dog that he will be “eaten” if he barks again.
It is important to use these products on aggressive dog behavior as soon as possible to save face with the family and dog.
Dogs can cause mayhem and are an animal instinct that cannot be controlled. There are plenty of products available to help with canine aggression. You can either treat the dog’s aggression or you can stop dog aggression.
Whatever method you choose, the most important factor is to show your dog that you’re the boss.
Help! My Dog Is Acting Aggressive
There are various reasons why a dog may be behaving aggressively. If it’s a puppy, make sure you read my article on Puppy Dog Training.
One reason a dog becomes aggressive is when they’re afraid. Some dogs will react to their fear by biting. This is a bad habit to have as the dog is not confident in its bite. To stop the biting, they must be told that it is unacceptable behavior.
When a dog becomes aggressive, it’s your responsibility to monitor it. You can use a hand signal to stop the dog. What you do not want is for the dog to become defensive when you want them to be friendly. You want them to be friendly towards you.
If you want a dog to be friendly, you should take them on daily walks, or run a training class or take them to a daycare. To get a dog to be friendly, they must know you and other people. That is the best way to get a dog to behave well.
Do not ever respond to aggression in a dog with anger. Remember that in dog training, you are teaching a dog not to bite. A dog that bites a child or adult is very damaging to your efforts.
If the dog bites a person, you must stop the dog immediately, and apply the techniques outlined in the article on how to stop dog aggression. In the article, I describe the techniques, and at the end, I give a link to the resources that were used to actually achieve the end).
The first technique is to take the dog to a dog trainer. The trainer should be well versed in the best ways to achieve the desired result. The trainer should be calm and relaxed and use lots of positive languages.
The second technique is to stop the aggression by using a positive conditioning technique. Positive conditioning is a type of conditioning that has been used for decades to stop dog aggression. This is a technique that involves you getting the dog to see you as the “alpha dog”, and that is the way the dog views it, which stops the dog from biting.
Using positive language with the dog and other people is also critical. For example, if you tell the dog that it’s a good boy, and it performs well, you reinforce the idea that the dog is performing well and it does it well. As you reinforce the idea that the dog is performing well, you get the dog to also view the people in the group as the “working dogs”. A group of dogs is a good example of a group that the dog sees as part of a group).
For many aggressive dogs, a group that the dog is not allowed in is the best way to stop the dog from being aggressive to other members of the group.
The next article will look at some of the other options in dealing with aggressive dogs. The idea is that all dogs can be trained, but sometimes it may be impossible to train dogs that have been aggressive from birth, or dogs that have been aggressive before and continue to be aggressive because the owner did not correct the behavior.
Please note that this information is given to acquaint you that your dog may be a carrier of aggressive personality, it is not to discourage you from contacting a trainer if you choose to do so.
